"The children are really great. Because of their age they don't really have any preconceived beliefs to prevent from interacting with us. They are enthusiastic to learn and always fun to be around" --Matthew McAuley, a member of pre-school project "In this project the members have severly opportunities to introduce their cultures. The children of Yonbancho Pre-school are always looking forward to activities and enjoy them very much. I am very glad to be a member of Pre-school." -- Rina Enatsu, a member of pre-school project

Pre-SchoolProgram
Five to six students visit a pre-school located in Ichigaya once a week for a period of five weeks during the semester. The Pre-School Program gives students the opportunity to see Japanese pre-schools from inside, while the pre-school children have a chance to get to know foreigners living in Japan. The Pre-School Program started tentatively after a student of FCC, Mr. Hitoshi Ode who knew one of the mothers of the pre-school children, introduced Sophia Alpha to the pre-school staff in Autumn 2002. One semester later, the Pre-School Program was established as one of our regular activities. Through playing with kids we gain insights about the Japanese Pre-School Education. We also establish a relationship between FCC and the local community. We organize the program with the knowledge and experience gained in the BEST (Bancho Elementary School Teaching) program which is a program designed for elementary school pupils. The difference between the BEST and Pre-School programs is that we use English as Second Language when interacting with the pre-school children. Example of Activities: 1st Week: Introduction and greetings in Six languages 2nd Week: songs (BINGO and Father Abraham) 3rd Week: crafts (origami and dream catcher) 4th Week: colouring 5th Week: sign language and songs

The Pre-School Program can also be an opportunity to see what kind of social problems there are in Japan. For example, there are not enough nurseries to answer the increasing demand of working mothers. To know education means to see the society. Please join the program and reflect on the education system as members of future bearers with Sophia Alpha!
