| Japanese is not a requirement and please don't be concerned about not knowing enough about your culture or history. All you need is to have lived in and experienced the country which you will focus on. The program isn't interested in promoting the culture and history endorsed by the government. The most important thing is that the kids learn what it really means to live in ones country and have a chance to interact with people outside of Japan. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||

| We try to give an oppotunity for both Bancho school pupils and sophia students to become culturaly acquinted at a casual level. Instead of believing stereotypes, the pupils can relate to exchange students immediately. Introduce your culture as your "HOME" and not just as a "location" |

| The goal of the program is to change the way the children relate to members of the international community. The program believes by promoting interaction between the kids and international students it will result in relationships based on personal characteristics and prevent them from using labels such as "gaijin" (foreigner). The program consists of 4 sessions . Each session a different student or a group of students from the same country will come to BANCHO elementary school and work with a small group of usually 12-16 students aged 8 to 9. The focus of the class is restricted to the country you live in, but how one chooses to conduct the class is flexible and the students have a lot of control. In the past, sessions have been split up into three parts: one part for talking about yourself and your life back home, a second part for cooking and sharing a favorite meal, and a third part for some sort of physical activity like a game you play back home. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
